History of Art trip to Rome, March 2009
A happy and action packed art history trip to Rome. Not only did we explore the buildings of ancient Rome and admire the masterpieces of the High Renaissance and Baroque period but also we had ice creams to sample and shops to investigate in order to encounter the true experience of this great city.

Stopping to catch our breath outside St Peters.

Steven Conyers, an Oxford university student came to Wychwood in March to give the History of Art students an excellent talk on ‘Fraud in Art’. He examined how art connoisseurs differentiate between the original and the fraud. He explored Morelli’s method of identifying the characteristic ‘hand’ of the artist, the erroneous cases of suspected fraud and the work of the notorious forger Eric Hebborn. This topic provided a fascinating insight into a little regarded aspect of art history.
