DRAMA (EDEXCEL)

GCSE Drama encourages pupils to develop a variety of creative skills including drama forms, acting, improvisation, analysis, group work and communication.

The students will learn to respond to a variety of stimuli, encouraging the expression of ideas, and meanings.  A pupil will learn how ideas and meanings are conveyed through the language of drama.  She will explore a range of drama forms – recognising them in others’ work and applying them to practical activities.  Script work will be used to aid understanding of how practitioners realise text in performance, as well as giving the student opportunity to develop her own performance skills.

Assessment objectives are based on four principal areas of learning – responding to ideas and issues, developing through exploring ideas in order to structure them into a meaningful piece of drama work, presenting ideas to others, evaluating the effectiveness of the pupil’s own and others’ work.

Sixty per cent of the assessment is based on coursework, marked by the teacher with external moderation.  Forty per cent of the assessment is based on a drama performance which is externally examined.
